" It's A Card a Guy Would Like"

... that's what my husband said of this card:

Yay, a card a guy would like!!   That's what I was going for!!

The background is stamped with various stamps from Crafty Secrets &
My Mind's Eye in Memento Rich Cocoa & London Fog inks on
Papertrey Ink Kraft cardstock and
a Stampin' Up! Navy card base.

I recently learned of a fun challenge blog called Shopping Our Stash,
and I'm entering this card in their challenge this week:  stamped backgrounds.

Pink With Gray or Black

The Midweek Throwdown at Operation Write Home is a challenge to make a card using the color combo of pink with gray or black.  I remembered I had the Echo Park " Be Mine" 12x12 kit in my stash that features just those colors, and off I went!  Everything on these three cards came from the kit, except for the last card using the "Thank You" from the Wplus9  Fanciful Feathers Set-- which is the only actual stamping I did.  I'm going to remember this color combo for my Valentine's cards, too.  Thanks for looking!

OWH Sketch 226

                                226

I think the OWH weekly sketches are amazing, especially since they all have measurements which allow you to simply follow the pattern and create an interesting card.  Or you can play with it and make some variation because, after all, it's a sketch!  Some of the sketches are very easy for me to "see" and interpret, but there are some that just plain baffle me, even with the measurements.  On the Memorial Day Bloghop this past weekend, I saw a number of those "baffling" sketches used and how, indeed, they make great cards just following the sketch literally.   So, inspired by the many great bloghop cards, I plan to try more of those sketches that I personally find challenging.

In the meantime, here are a couple of cards for this week's sketch
which I admit was one I could readily "see":

The striped paper is from October Afternoon "Sasparilla" 8x8 pad; the sentiment is in the Stampin'Up! Perfect Pennants set; True Black and Stamper's Select White cardstock from Papertrey Ink; assorted scraps. The sequins are solidly adhered with Beacon's 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue, a super strong adhesive.

The papers are all from Basic Grey Wander 6x6 pad; the sentiment from the Hero Arts/ OWH Year Round Sentiments set; Enchanted Evening and Stamper's Select White cardstock from Papertrey.

memdaybloghop_2014

Welcome to my stop on the Bloghop!   As a grateful American, I am here to remember
those in the military who have served and are serving now--
to thank them and their families for their service and sacrifice which honors us all.

Today I share a few of the cards I've made for the troops--
all using a red, white, and blue color scheme, made with care and gratitude,
and each inspired by an OWH Sketch.

Just a quick post to link up to this week's OWH Midweek Throwdown:

My card doesn't actually say "thinking of you", but this is what I think of my guy.

May ODBD Challenge

Hi!  I was very last minute getting to the ODBD April Challenge (like posting at 9:30pm on the very last day), so I'm trying to be a bit more timely this month...AND,  OWH is trying for 50 cards this first day of the challenge.  I hope it happens!!!  This month's ODBD challenge is embossing, and here's my card

This is a "No-Sew Quilted Card" I tried after watching a Make It Monday video on Nichole's blog over at Papertrey Ink.  (You can see it here on YouTube).  I used some K & Company scraps from the "Summer Travel" collection and a Lifestyle Crafts embossing folder.  I had a lot of fun with this technique... and I so love using my paper scraps!!
